World Map 1735, Mahogany Frame - Each atlas published in the 1700s held a large fold out map of the world. Usually named “Orbis Terrarum”, Latin for Sphere of the World, it showed the two halves of the world. Maps then were colored, skilled artists highlighted boundaries, washed in oceans and mountain ranges, and delicately embellished cartouches.

In this spirit and tradition we carry on, printing maps on museum quality stock and coloring them in great detail, to enhance both the informative and decorative aspects of early cartography.

Wall maps are featured in several famous art works from the Dutch Baroque period. What’s special about our reproduction is the combination of high quality reprints on acid free paper combined with hand coloring in the classic ‘aquarelle’ technique. Edges, shades, wash, every color except black, is truly hand applied. Some maps take days to color. They will not discolor as mechanically reproduced maps do. Such maps will increase in value… even more so due to expert framing, using professional museum mat and gold filet framing under glass.
