Skeena Rapid Canoe 18'
This 18' (around 550cm) canoe is built from strips of red and yellow canadian cedar and encapsulated in fiber glass. It weights about 55 pounds (around 25 kgs) and can be put on top of your car or hand carry to the lake where you can enjoy a smooth ride. This canoe comes with two oars. For years, professional canoe guides and outfitters have relied on plastic or fiberglass for their fleets of boats. Each of them has its own merit. One is inexpensive, the other light, but none of them has the look of beauty. At Great River Canoe, we are determined to make something stunningly beautiful and at the same time strong, durable and light weight. How can we achieve all of this? All of our canoes/kayaks are assembled from strips of top graded Canadian cedar (a very rare soft yet very strong timber) and then encapsulated in fiberglass with epoxy resin. This is an excellent touring design that borders on the performance category. This canoe only weights about 49 lbs and can be put on top of your car or hand carry to the lake on day trips, family picnics, fishing or expeditions. This canoe comes with two ores for a perfectly smooth ride. - Stunningly beautiful clear graded cedar hull. - Fiberglass adds important tensile strength and abrasion resistance to the wood. - 100% western red cedar make our boats surprisingly light weight so that one person can carry it. - Great river canoes offer either a traditional open canoe or an enclosed kayak and these two will cover most of your paddling needs: recreational, touring, expeditions and performance. Great River Canoes are completely handcrafted and it typically takes about 200-500 hours to build one. We still use the traditional method of constructions while integrating the highest quality of materials currently available. Strips of cedars are joined together by hand and then encapsulated in fiberglass, bonded in place with epoxy resin and then coated with marine vanish. This combination of fiberglass and epoxy is very strong and completely transparent so that the beauty of the wood will be protected for generations.. Owner Care: Great River canoes are toughly built with wooden strips encapsulated in fiberglass and epoxy, thus the wood strips will be highly protected in most conditions. Go ahead and enjoy your day trip or expedition and do not worry too much about scratches since most of them can be fixed by vanish. Safety: Please wear your floating device at all times while in a boat. Shipping: We crate each canoe and ship it via trucking company directly to your house. Manufacturer's Warranty: We take great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our canoes, so if there is anything that you are not satisfied with, please contact us within 2 weeks and we will promptly address your concerns. Other Facts: Canoes Differ from Kayaks although they are commonly interchanged in reference to each other. According to Wikipedia.com, differences from other paddled boats: * Kayak - The main difference between a kayak and a canoe is that a kayak is a closed canoe meant to be used with a double-bladed paddle, one blade on each end, instead of a single bladed paddle. The double-bladed paddle makes it easier for a single person to handle a kayak. Kayaks are more commonly enclosed on top with a deck, making it possible to recover from a capsize without the kayak filling with water in most cases, although there are also closed canoes, which are common in competition. The deck is an extension of the hull, with a special sheet called a spraydeck sealing the gap between deck and the paddler. * Rowboat - Not considered a canoe. It is propelled by oars resting in pivots on the gunwales or on 'riggers' that extend out from the boat. A rower may use one (sweep-oar)or two oars (sculling). A rower sits with his or her back toward the direction of travel. Some rowboats, such as a River Dory or a raft outfitted with a rowing frame are suitable for whitewater. * Adirondack guideboat - a rowboat that has similar lines to a canoe. However the rower sits closer to the bilge and uses a set of pinned oars to propel the boat. * Dragon boat - while it handles similar to and is paddled the same way as a large canoe, a dragon boat is not considered a canoe since its construction is markedly different. * Sit-on-tops - more akin to kayaks in design, handling, and propulsion (see Kayak#Sit-on-tops).
