Ship Models - Sovereign of the Seas XL Limited Edition: This is one of a kind, a gorgeous model of the Sovereign of the Seas. All details are handcrafted from beautiful wood such as mahogany, teak, rose wood and other exotic wood. Dimensions: 58x17x53 Inches Features | Benefits: The hull is constructed using plank on frame method, each strip of exotic wood are carefully join together to form a smooth hull. This model is completely hand built to spec by skillful and creative master craftsmen; you will be amazed at how real it looks. On the ship, you will spot amazing components such as: wooden bowsprit, foremast, mainmast, and mizzen mast. They are all connected to numerous fabric sails with detailed stitching, all rigging are painstakingly fastened by hand in matching colors. Ship Models - Sovereign of the Seas History: HMS Sovereign of the Seas was a 17th century British Royal Navy first-rate ship of the line of 100 guns, later known as just Sovereign and then Royal Sovereign. She was built by Peter Pett (later a Commissioner of the Navy), under the guidance of his father Phineas, the king's master shipwright, and was launched at Woolwich dockyard on October 13, 1637. As the second three-decked first-rate (the first three-decker being Prince Royal of 1610), she was the predecessor of Nelson's Victory, although Revenge, built in 1577 by Mathew Baker, was the inspiration providing the innovation of a single deck devoted entirely to broadside guns. She was the most extravagantly decorated warship in the Royal Navy, and the money spent making her helped to create the financial crisis for Charles I that contributed to the English Civil War.
